That's where NASA got the idea from for the space shuttle.

Concorde? Do you mean a Vulcan fighter? There’s no Concorde there.

Is it true that the 747 had to fly upside down to "launch" the Vulcan. Well when I say "launch" I mean Pvt Terry Tuffkins would undo the padlocks holding it on so it could drop off

Uncommon knowledge as well: The Vulcan Fighter was launched facing backwards because it allowed a slightly improved separation manouveour. Exactly how it worked is still classified by the department of secrets.

Fun fact: the Vulcan could not only be launched backwards from a 747, it could also fly backwards due to its unique Rolls Royce Pegasus engine and thrust vectoring nozzles.
-
Is it true they experimented with vertical take off but the vertical thrust of the Pegasus broke the 747's wings?

The 747 would fly inverted and it typically took about 10 minutes to convince the Vulcan pitot to release the clamps. Only 4 in 10 launches resulted in hull loss.
