Photo of the Day: Special Army Soldiers "Fast Rope" from an H22 Osprey heli-plane at #RAFLuton. Fast Roping is the use of a Rope to get on the ground Fast when the pilot is not qualified to land or when the ground is deceptively flat and therefore to dangerous to land. #AvGeekpic.twitter.com/yWnQgezO0d

Hi Gerry, would you want to get back into a heli-plane with a pilot that can't land?

Have the Flight Steward toss them out! Trust me, inflight service on these flights is atrocious! Last one I was on they only had blended Scotch! *shudders*

Does the pilot have to fast rope even fasterer so he can run away before it crashes? Or does it just refuel mid air and he stays up there indefinitely

As I understand it that is what they do, but not indefinitely. They stay up until the pilot really really really needs a wee, which provides the impetus for learning how to land.
