Wow!. I think during the war to protect the runway at RAF NORTHOLT. They had pretend houses on the ground so anyone flying from above it looked like homes.

There was similar painted on the old power station cooling towers in Northampton. And up on the north York moors trenches were dug to burn petrol and look like foundries et in nearby industrial towns.
