Okay, creating an instance. It defaults to Iowa. A quick spot check shows that this is the cheapest region. Curiously it defaults me to Generation 1. Generation 2 is apparently more expensive, but beefier.

A touch of `visudo` to uncomment the wheel group option that doesn't mandate a password, and we're good to go. I'll pass this instance; it does what I'd expect it to do so far. Excellent job, FreeBSD community.
iproute2 isn't in BSD land, so we're back to ancient times with ifconfig. Looks like @GCPcloud passes out local IPs only, same as AWS does.
The console gives me the public IP. AWS recently added a nicety of "click to copy IP;" Google makes me copy and paste like an animal.

So, let's summarize. Billing control is phenomenal. Console navigation is decent. Cloud Shell needs to figure out how computers work in 2020. This makes AWS's console developer experience look like garbage; https://github.com/iann0036/AWSConsoleRecorder … is effectively native here.
I'd not shy away from building something more meaningful than "a Unix box" on this platform. The user flows are straightforward.
