And yes, I am furious about Anita's cancelled talk, about the spectre of Marc Lepine being raised over a lecture on *video games*
-
-
The fact that such basic issues of access remain such fraught battlegrounds is absolutely frightening. It terrorises *all of us.*
-
Consider the fact that GG has a list of "LWs" now. Zoe Quinn was the first, Anita the second... and the rest are *all* women.
-
The perverse damnatio memoriae of the women they despise for speaking their minds is a chilling sociological artifact of this mess.
-
So many around me are literally sick of this. Physically ill, from anxiety and fear. Myself included. I'm beyond tired of being scared.
-
Whatever the intentions (or identities) of some in GG, the *impact* of this movement is what it is. The terror it created is real.
-
The terror is not the result of propaganda or misunderstanding or obtuseness, but the real impact on all of our lives.
-
That even a "moderate" would be so callous as to say that speaks volumes about a severe failure of empathy endemic to the movement.
-
Everything happening now is a terrifying elaboration of my argument against "ends justify the means" thinking in leaderless movements.
So much is made by them of the fact that Brianna Wu's threats or Anita's didn't come directly from GG. But it doesn't matter. Why?
-
@Quinnae_Moon Only for plausibly denying it was them. GG creates the atmosphere that encourages and fosters people to make threats -
.
@Quinnae_Moon@silentkpants Right, right. There's a big difference between "That's awful, nobody should do that" and "We didn't do that."
