And yes, I am furious about Anita's cancelled talk, about the spectre of Marc Lepine being raised over a lecture on *video games*
-
In response to my essay on FPS, one GGer quoted Robespierre to say "there can be no virtue without terror," validating everything I argued.
-
@Quinnae_Moon I was wondering if they would ever make that connection themselves... -
Everything happening now is a terrifying elaboration of my argument against "ends justify the means" thinking in leaderless movements.
-
@Quinnae_Moon Jesus, who quotes Robespierre? Red flag!! -
Terror, for one too many GGers, has become the despotism of their perverse digital "virtue," a pure conception of the "gamer" identity.
-
So much is made by them of the fact that Brianna Wu's threats or Anita's didn't come directly from GG. But it doesn't matter. Why?
-
Because the reaction of the movement is damning enough. No humanity, just PR/spin, denial, victim blaming, and endless slander.
-
Even if Wu's threat came from outside, GG's collective response-- to say she doxxed herself, that she did it for attention-- has damned them
-
@Quinnae_Moon As usual, putting everything very well here. -
@Quinnae_Moon And the creation of a fallback narrative that justifies further terror. -
@Quinnae_Moon Only for plausibly denying it was them. GG creates the atmosphere that encourages and fosters people to make threats -
The worst thing that some of the most radical GGers fear is *looking bad*-- and that is blood-curdling.
