And yes, I am furious about Anita's cancelled talk, about the spectre of Marc Lepine being raised over a lecture on *video games*
-
Whatever the intentions (or identities) of some in GG, the *impact* of this movement is what it is. The terror it created is real.
-
@Quinnae_Moon I am shaking with anger and anxiety and I haven't even been targeted. The fear is real, especially for those who have been. -
The terror is not the result of propaganda or misunderstanding or obtuseness, but the real impact on all of our lives.
-
@Quinnae_Moon Something I've noticed is GG indoctrinated a lot of kids who had no idea what it was really about and just thought it was -
@Quinnae_Moon about defending games and gamer culture. And explaining to a 14 year old they were duped is tough. -
@Quinnae_Moon I don’t know if it really matters anymore whether the individual harassers are GG. The fact it exists gives them license. -
One GGer in my mentions the other night literally said I should stop worrying because "no one died." Is that what it's going to take?
-
That even a "moderate" would be so callous as to say that speaks volumes about a severe failure of empathy endemic to the movement.
-
@Quinnae_Moon We both know that would not stop them... At least... I highly doubt it. -
@Quinnae_Moon Sadly... I think it might. Someone killed or badly wounded. Maybe several people. -
@Quinnae_Moon "we are going to say many unambiguously violent things and expect you to treat none of them as serious" -
@Quinnae_Moon "let's just normalize the idea that threats of violence should be instantly disregarded" -
In response to my essay on FPS, one GGer quoted Robespierre to say "there can be no virtue without terror," validating everything I argued.
-
@Quinnae_Moon I was wondering if they would ever make that connection themselves... -
Everything happening now is a terrifying elaboration of my argument against "ends justify the means" thinking in leaderless movements.
