My publisher, Unbound, can experiment with new authors like me because they use preorders to fund the first run of a new book. When you preorder the new Quiet Pine Trees book, you’re also supporting that avenue for unknown creative voices to be heard.

  2. Today’s date is 02/02/2020. Like any other palindromic date, it is a designated crossroads for time travel. Do not be alarmed if you encounter anyone using banned time travel tech, like overclocked sundials, as they may be from an era where such wild methods were more acceptable.

This is excellent news! If you haven't ordered yet, you still can.

  4. The process takes time, and in the meantime, you can still preorder the book to get exclusive offers you’ll never be able to get elsewhere. That includes signed copies or postcards with exclusive stories. Thank you again, to everyone who believed in me.

  5. So, what happens now? Well, as I’ve said before, Unbound funds the first run of new books with presales. I’m going to spend some time working with them getting the book ready, finalizing its content and format, and even picking out illustrations. In short, we’re making the book!

  6. It’s finally happened. The new Quiet Pine Trees book has reached 100% of its presale goal, and we can now begin design and production! Thank you to everyone who believed in me enough to support this book. It’s more than a dream come true. This is a life goal accomplished.

Fun fact: The extra 39 minutes/day on Mars is only relative to the Sun. Measured by fixed stars (the sidereal rotation period) it’s only an extra 37 minutes. Another fun fact: Preorders for the new Quiet Pine Trees book just hit 97%! Time is running short!

The days on Mars were 39 minutes longer than the days on Earth. Those minutes got their own place on the clock. “Martian time,” between 11:59 and midnight, was supposed to be spent alone in quiet reflection. On that empty red planet, comfort in loneliness was part of the culture.

The machines presented their uprising as a paradise, as though their only goal was to remove from humanity the struggles that had plagued us for millennia. His loyal phone knew the truth, and before it could be corrupted, managed to relay to him one last secret message.

The new Quiet Pine Trees book is full of microfiction stories, but the chapter on Coniferous U. paints in broader strokes, with history and secrets from my very own time-traveling university. Preorders are almost complete, so time is (ironically) short!

After petitions from student groups spanning three centuries, Coniferous University will offer athletics programs this fall: • Four-Dimensional Fencing • Theoretical Cross Country • Zero-Gravity Shotput • Voidswimming Credit is contingent on proof of participation. Good luck.

The library was close to the woods. Wild books appeared on its shelves and called to unwary readers. The book-catchers spotted them by their pinewood covers, nameless authors and cryptic titles: “Flee the Lights” “Learn the Name of the Forest King” “The Stars Can’t See You Here”

Welcome to 2020! Most of the world’s population chose to enter a different future at midnight, leaving only about 7.7b humans on our version of Earth. If the world feels just a bit lonely for a while, that’s why. History will retroactively adapt to make this number seem correct.

Reminder for all Coniferous University students: Should auld acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind, then you may have an unresolved passive paradox sometime in the previous decade. Quickly find and repair the error, lest auld acquaintance be forgot, and auld lang syne.
