There's much at stake in elections, esp. for #QueensDA, who currently cages 100,000+ people every year.
But how we campaign must itself reflect the justice we seek.
I agree w/ @kasekaiserina's point & am running for a leadership role in @QueensDSA to help address it. https://twitter.com/kasekaiserina/status/1153807168098820097 …

Queens DSA has endorsed two candidates, both were movement candidates by any definition. Both contributed to building and organizing the movement we all want to build. Both went through an exhaustive endorsement processes. Such candidates & campaigns are the best education.

I think that's a very good interpretation. Still, I take it that Tia's point, w/ which I agree, is that a higher standard of movement candidacies is one in which those most harmed by the status quo are clearly won over by the candidate. By that standard, we haven't yet succeeded.

Changing where people are often requires getting to complicated alliances with folks who don't accept most of our vision. I think the Caban campaign in particular moved us at least twenty years forward to a place I didn't think possible.

I don't disagree w/ the statements you've made. Where we disagree, I think, is whether to treat them as premises for the conclusion that those candidacies were therefore movement candidates, at least according to the standard implied by Tia's tweet (which is what I was citing).

A lot of the issue is simply capacity. Queens does not have as many organizers as people seem to think. If all of the people who talked about our campaigns would help organize them we could do more but just keeping the branch running with limited help has not been easy.

I wasn’t talking about your understanding of organizing in Queens. Just speaking on our capacity at the Queens DSA. I will try to be a less fragile POC.

Yes, exactly. The criticism was/is about *organizational* priorities & actions, not *individual* ones. I affirm Tia's criticism b/c it identifies one way white supremacy is manifest in DSA – not to bash DSA but so that we can recognize the harm of this strategy & never repeat it.
