The General Felonies team is the core of our litigation work. In 2020, because of COVID & court closures, the team could only complete 5 jury trials & 188 preliminary hearings (historic lows). Despite it all they managed to keep doing justice & were assigned over 1,700 new cases.

Is this an indirect way to say “@SFDAOffice don’t want to be overwhelmed with felony cases, so we’d rather charge them as misdemeanors and let the suspects go free”? Because jails, you know, have leaking toilets and asbestos.
