I was today years old when I realized that Tolkien’s Lobelia Sackville-Baggins is probably a misogynistic satire on Vita Sackville-West, a well-known poet and letter-writer of his time who was bitter about being unable to inherit her father’s house bcs of sexist inheritance laws.

Her full name was Victoria Sackville-West, so even more like Lobelia.

That makes so much sense!! Wow the world of lit is just so wonderfully small! And Tolkien would’ve known about her and her lack of inheritance?

Yes, she was very well-known. I would think he would have known her personally, anyway; they lived in a small world. But even if not, her life was reported in newspapers of the time.

So in Tolkien's world, women can either be on a pedestal (Galadriel, Arwen), sexist caricatures (Rosie, Lobelia), tokens (Eowyn) or monsters (Shelob)...

I don't know why you would say it's misogynistic. I would say it's just satire. True, she was outted from her land inheritance, but he probably didn't think it was worth a lifetime of bitterness and some of her literature probably rubbed him the wrong way.
