Going into the history of e.g. the heliocentric theory is interesting. About a dozen necessary steps that were made, quietly, over hundreds of years, before Copernicus/Galileo come in and polish up the remainder (and get credit for a "revolution").

heliocentrism is interesting because there was more of a “revolution” imho but the technological aspects (measurement and calculation techniques) evolved v slowly, yes (and medievals had been playing w/ ideas like rotating earth or non-aristotelian impetus for a long time)
