I am a scientific layman, only somewhat knowledgable about these things on that level. I do not believe in putting such faith/optimism in technology or human will to improve man, I think history has shown the error of that project.

I completely agree, and think that the emphasis on genetic determinism on the right (the real right, not the official right) is just repackaged Calvinism (and some NEET escapism.) Hence the original comment.

Well, then you should be a big fan of the current Western setup, since it's basically Calvinism 101

@QuasLacrimas has written about this. He was going more from tropes about and caricatures of Calvinism than the real thing. He ignored the deists and unitarians, much better fit for predecessors to today’s progs, and instead blamed Puritans for some reason.2 replies 0 retweets 1 like -
The best "fit" for prog ideology is Stoicism, rly Anyway here's one post, but I wrote a bunch on this topic:https://quaslacrimas.wordpress.com/2017/08/01/on-puritans-and-progs-july-2017-draft/ …

Do you plan on writing on the prog/stoic connection? Has anyone written on it previously? Can you direct me to any material?
