adults males/parenting/mating arrangements mattering at some lvl of aggregation is a well supported finding across biology, old-skool anthropology, etc. behavioral gen means it can't matter much in sense of direct "investment" now (tho definitely did b4, when more kids starved).

there are plenty of non-human analogues where introducing or removing adult males changes behavior of adolescent males a lot, and not just because the adults are killing the adolescents or beating them up (tho that matters too ofc)
