Good question from David Brooks: If less immigration would help the white working class, why is the white working class doing especially poorly in the places that don’t have many immigrants? https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/29/opinion/east-germany-immigration-usa.html?action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=opinion-c-col-left-region&region=opinion-c-col-left-region&WT.nav=opinion-c-col-left-region …pic.twitter.com/B8QixqCBBY

Maybe bc immigrants move directy to wherever the job market is currently strongest whereas most ppl do not relocate en masse for new jobs every year

beyond exhibiting a lack of common sense, your comment shows a clear lack of familiarity with the principals behind a shared currency area with labor mobility between regional markets why bother to have opinions?

I also think there’s a “seen” versus “unseen” issue where a) some labor supply effects are transmitted to other markets and b) employers have incentive to move to immigration heavy markets and abandon those without

one of those reasons being that labor supply is more elastic in healthy markets

You mean like the opinion you have where you don’t actually answer the question? Whites in areas with high immigrant populations are doing better than whites in areas with almost no immigrants. Conclusion, no matter how you want to slice it, is that immigrants arent the problem.
