It's mostly about emotional control which is extremely useful

it’s useful as a trick, not as a lifestyle emotions have purposes, being endlessly open to feeling (or not feeling) them just bc you can engineer it is baleful

Classic stoicism is not being emotionless. It's about being able to generate a stop so you aren't totally pwned by some surprising stimuli. You don't ignore or cut off the emotions.
