60s activists were heavily centered on the students (many conservative professors still) and thought some form of violent revolution might be imminent currently faculty is further left, principles more radical but strategy is "normal" activism

I don't disagree with this summary, but important to realize that the 50s were incredibly liberal even in some ways by 2010s standards (the degree of belief in the power/capacities of the state alone was crazy relative to today.)
