Hello, fellow Christians. Jesus was a refugee. Jesus was Middle Eastern. Jesus was Jewish. Jesus told us to take care of the poor. In a season that ostensibly celebrates his word, these are things to consider. Merry Christmas!

First, Jesus was not a refugee. His family moved from the Roman vassal state of Judaea to the Roman province of Aegyptus. In other words, Joseph, Mary, and Jesus never left Roman rule, and a refugee is someone fleeing from one political power to another; not within the same one.

Second, Jesus was not "Middle Eastern" as you mean it. The society was Hellenic and under Roman rule. He was "Middle Eastern" in the same way that native Kurdish peoples are, but they do not look anything like what you mean to conjure today with "Middle Eastern."pic.twitter.com/vnaO4oqJJc

Third, no, Jesus was not "Jewish." Hebrew and "Jewish" (Middle English) are not synonymous due to 1,000 years of Rabbinic developments as well as later conversions (Idumaeans, Khazars) and a genetic bottleneck ~AD 1200-1400. http://www.ibtimes.com/new-study-shows-european-jews-are-all-related-1685026 …http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/archaeology/scientists-reveal-jewish-historys-forgotten-turkish-roots-a6992076.html …

3b, it is also important to note that there were multiple sects in the 1st century (Pharisees, Sadducees, Essenes, Zealots, Samaritans), and "Judaism" refers to the Rabbinic faith developing from the Pharisaic sect. Read John 8:42-47 for Jesus rebuking them as children of Satan.

Further context for those interested. Imho her confusion can be avoided by distinguishing between Judaeans and jews.https://quaslacrimas.wordpress.com/2016/08/29/religious-phylogeny-and-the-kike-on-a-stick/ …
