@PaIeodeadlift @HakonRotmwrt Reminder of the topology presented in Schlebusch et al 2017 (https://www.biorxiv.org/content/early/2017/06/05/145409 …)
The 31% BasalHuman contribution to YRI (Yoruba) could just as easily be 10% or 15% from a hominin even MORE basal (like naledi) than presented in this modelpic.twitter.com/5mvYdqG3eD
The H. naledi/sub-saharan intermixing would have occurred far earlier than Hanno's voyage, no? The genocide of the last H. naledi would have been carried out by a semi-naledified population
Certainly possible, but not certain IMO. Small pop couldve survived in relative isolation til proto-historic times. Whats suspicious is we don't see anything resembling the W African haplotype in aDNA record until Islamic slave trade
You're right, I guess that is suspicious, but other models I had seen attributed the same archaic hominid admixture not only to Bantu but also to basal pygmy
If the late-naledification model is correct, that means the Tassili ppl came to Lake Chad and were absorbed into the proto-Bantu population before the naledi admixture gave them their characteristic modern traits
