That’s still a $1300-$1500/mo mortgage payment. That’s a helluva lotta house in a lotta places in the US.

Yeah, this is another of those ways in which Americans live in two different countries. For me, 300k on a starter home with """good schools""" would be incredibly cheap and functionally impossible

That’s fair. I recognize that there are parts where $300k is on the low end. But his bitching about not affording a $300k house AND a $400k college degree is horseshit in a large portion of the US.

i agree, it's all twisted and spiritually depraved. personally, i should have started having kids a decade ago even if i had to live in my parents' basement. but all the same, i've had a $500k bid on a 2br rejected (no counteroffer, seller had no higher bid)

The housing market is fascinating—even if morbidly so. I’m working out ~$170k mortgage to put a 1800sq.ft. house on 37 acres of land I just bought earlier this year—half of that amount being refinancing the land.
