i was always suspicious of art bc it seemed like way more of a thing for rich people than literature or music etc.

it almost intrinsically has to be a not-(rich-person-thing) bc it’s how they vie w/ each other for prestige and demonstrate they aren’t *just* greedy plutocrats

for some cultural domain (paintings or architecture or w/e) to serve this purpose, it has to exist as a standard outside wealth (b/c it’s a club the wealthy are trying to join)
