oh it’s a blind, undirected process driven by the ruthless culling of constantly restructured neural nets? i guess sociobiology can teach us nothing about ithttps://twitter.com/Logo_Daedalus/status/1043872378760167424 …
this isn’t about posturing it’s about - what to read? virology or a guru from the 1970s? the precise items you identify as disqualifying sociobiology as irrelevant show that you don’t have any conceptual tools to answer this question

My point is that nothing you read is going to give you the tools to "contain" what is going on. The idea that this is possible is the very essence of contentcucking. You can only get a sense of what you can know by knowing how much you will never understand.
-
yeah, boring entities have been attempting to outmodel other entities since before multicellular life, it’s not this grand pyrrhonian mystery “you’ll never know everything” is valid only to the extent it also clarifies you will never know explicitly how much you already know
-
When it comes to machine learning tho- that modeling is outsourced, & there's no "metamodeler" hueman behind the wheel
-
Why does that matter? What process biology studies has a human “behind the wheel”?
-
Well when it comes to an AI making decisions about your life it starts to matter
-
No, why does it matter to *whether you use biological concepts to study them*?
-
Well, first off, whatever concept youre gonna use is gonna fail, & biological metaphors are only going to lead you on a wild goose chase lol
-
My over/under is 18 months until you understand, and I’ll be interested to hear your insights when you do
