why was there so much of this when i was a kid. did i ever really properly freak out about the yeerks from animorphs. what did it do to me for that to be one of the foundational stories of my childhood

Yeerks are such an underutilized metaphor. As is most of the stuff from the Animorphs series. I think about going back to reread them sometime. I wonder how they hold up. I ripped through a bunch one summer 25 years ago til the one at a logging camp (#8?) that bored me.
