At the risk of committing heresy: the death and resurrection of Jesus seems like the least important part of his story? His teaching of listening to and purifying the heart (in the context of a head obsessed Judaism) seem much more relevant and the metaphysical part?

- bible foretells a resurrection of the dead with the coming of messiah - judaism had just lost its main technology for sin forgiveness, a temple in which to sacrifice to god - rabbis were in midle of replacing it with law. jesus had other ideas. what about a temple in ur heart

- chassidism (baal shem tov and friends) says basically the same thing and get/got strong flak from the rabbinincal establishment when they suggested the same stuff. it threatens their monopoloy on god
