okay so TIL the difference between "obrigado" and "obrigada" finally: it depends on whether *you* are a man or a woman. very interesting that you have to specify your *own* gender to say "thank you" in this language 😅

its a participle and so is a verb that can act as an adjectives (the obliged dog, i am obliged). I think in most (all?) romance languages the participles do match the gender and number (la noix mangée, elles sont allées).
