okay so TIL the difference between "obrigado" and "obrigada" finally: it depends on whether *you* are a man or a woman. very interesting that you have to specify your *own* gender to say "thank you" in this language 😅

"thank you (male)"
"thank you (btw i have a penis)"
hmm
i don't think so? like i think it means "i'm obliged to you"

Imagine a language just passively supporting gender disclosure like this rather than relying on 3rd parties to have previous knowledge of it.

Don't even know what language this is but maybe it's closer to "I appreciate it" so referring to yourself makes sense?

People who think this is weird do not understand the purpose of language.
(I sympathize since it also took me several decades to understand its purpose.)

I mean yes you can look at it that way, but I've learned Spanish and French and this doesn't seem strange to me at all. It's a language with masculine and feminine conjugation, and obrigado doesn't really mean "thank you" but it's an adjective meaning [I am] much obliged.
