it’s a little disappointing about lisbon that i can walk into a grocery store and feel like i basically walked into an american grocery store with slightly more fish. but like the same magazines, the same packaging… same kinds of ads on the street… very little culture shock

wondering how recent of a trend this is, would it have been this way 10, 20, 50 years ago? globalism seems to have at least superficially really done a number on the city’s culture. or maybe i’m only seeing relatively touristy areas, idk. nothing has felt really alien

i do appreciate that there’s been noticeably more street life than in any american city i’ve been to. lots of hanging out outdoors. that part does feel nice and i wish i saw more of it in the states
