this is my biggest hurdle as a communicator/educator. How do I get them from concern -> x -> preparation? What is x?

it has to be communal somehow i think. very few people are going to be capable of prepping if they're the only person in their social circles doing it, it'll just feel too weird. need ways to gather like-minded people together, get them talking, sharing ideas and resources

hmm yeah this is exactly what I was thinking. Maybe like an organized event: vibe camp but for resilience to chaos

invite a couple speakers, maybe people willing to do hands-on workshops of some kind... oh hmm: maybe it could be hosted on a farm or something and you tour the place and maybe people take turns helping out a bit? get their hands dirty

100% we've already been talking behind the scenes about something like this

i would personally be pretty jazzed for something like this! it's a little unfortunate that the amount of money that would have to be spent on plane tickets goes a little against the spirit of the thing... but you gotta start somewhere i guess 😛

in the medium term it'd be nice to have a bunch of local events that people don't have to travel far to get to. that would be better for building local relationships with farmers and other interested locals anyway i guess?

we've been talking about a "microsolidarity barnraising": bunch of skilled & enthusiastic people descend on a place and activate the local community there, leaving behind a bunch of energy & skills
after we do this a couple times we can make a template for anyone to follow

rich you really know how to get me going 🥵
my advice to anyone feeling enthusiastic about this thread is to start organising small peer support groups and online meetups, start flexing your hosting muscles and learn the ropes, then build up to in person events and more substantial community organising
