the main way in which i really feel my age is that i think my cynicism has gotten better calibrated. when i was younger there were a lot of things i wasn't cynical about because i hadn't yet seen a ton of similar things completely fail to pan out

i can't imagine how powerful my cynicism will be in another decade or two after i've seen another decade or two's worth of promising-looking things completely fail to pan out

Curious to know if you've gotten less cynical about anything? It feels like I have in a number of ways, but maybe we started at different points (and of course it's probably multidimensional)

hmm. there are things i used to be "cynical" about but not quite in the sense i mean here, more like "oh i'm supposed to pretend i'm too cool for this"

As long as you've internalised expected value well enough to recognise when things that probably won't pan out are still worth doing
