This is such a paradox My in-person social group is filled with people who roll their eyes at COVID, are likely at a higher risk profile (older, less active), & took far fewer precautions and none of them have had COVID hit them like this

Commentators online: Don’t worry about Covid! If you’re healthy & vaccinated it’s just a little flu! Actual people I know: It’s day 14, still testing positive, fever is worse, can barely move, feel like death… [2 months later] still fatigued with brain fog but can jog sorta…

One of my friends (who was unvaccinated) got floored by Covid last summer & monoclonal antibodies probably saved his life Outside of that, everyone I know has caught it & recovered with a week or so, vaccinated and unvaccinated alike.

I genuinely don't know how to square this. People who mask up, vax up, boosters, second boosters, and continued social distancing have Covid horror stories, but people who think the whole thing is eye-rollingly overblown are just fine.

two guesses, suspect it’s a mix: 1) partly psychosomatic, ie freaking out about it is bad for your immune system, 2) people intuitively understand how vulnerable their immune systems really are and take precautions accordingly
