a lot of people were treated really badly growing up, and the assholery they exhibit now is their attempt to get back at the world for their pain.
what those people really need is kindness.

i sometimes wonder if being in a lot of pain and hurting people is a kind of strategy for getting other people to understand you - as in, "if you were in as much pain as i'm in then you'd finally understand me, so i'm going to make that happen now"
one of the secrets at albany bulb was something like "i was sexually assaulted by a woman a few years ago, so now i go around having sex with women and then abandoning them. hope you don't run into me!" which was uh... really something
