have stories about opening interdimensional portals been a thing in human history for longer than say, 100 years? is it just me or are we subconsciously memeing this into existence...

to clarify and make it more interesting: i mean stories where WE, humans, through our own will, open interdimensional portals, not just stumble on them. like govt breaches in Stranger Things, or Rick's portals

ah hmm that's trickier. the earliest i can think of for this is the magician's nephew which is from 1955 - uncle andrew creates magic rings that open portals to narnia, as opposed to the children finding them

maybe earlier: the dreams in the witch house (1933) by lovecraft, although unclear to me how much it counts, he is kinda opening a portal via his dreams. since this is lovecraft this is very much tied up with "non-euclidean geometry" for him
