they have a shared root in the middle meaning "to observe" but "suspect" means to observe secretly and "auspice" means observing birds (for omens)
yeah, funnily enough the root of suspect doesn't have an inherently negative connotation and the root of auspice doesn't have an inherently positive one. learned something today looking these up!
