i know we see a variation of this tweet every week but it’s ridiculous how good going to the gym feels and frankly stupid when i compare it to how bad convincing myself to go to the gym can feel

it’s worth mentioning that the pleasure of exercise does increase with capability in the first months it can be physically grim, especially if your approach is one of forcing and pushing with every year you get stronger, more flexible, more capable and exercise becomes play

a lot of the joy i feel seems to be a mix of: • the sheer happiness of powerful, fast movement (the type that’s not socially acceptable in other settings) • enjoying the strength and flexibility of my body. enjoying the feeling of capability • mind go shhhh

today i ran at fall blast listening to some of my fav songs and that felt incredible/left little room for thinking also big compound movements tend to be so taxing that at least while im in them verbal thought seems to quieten

also a lot of movements that *feel* physically nice to do. the best gym sessions are the ones where i listen to my body and allow it to move in the ways it wants to today i wanted to run really fast. so i did. then i wanted heavy taxing movements so i did some deadlifts etc

I'd also add stuff that needs your full attention. If I'm not fully engaged in the climbing gym I'll fall off. In martial arts, if you're thinking while sparring, you get punched in the face. 😅
