i tried to watch bo burnham’s inside recently and i couldn’t make it past the first 20m or so. i got really bad vibes from it. not just that he was in a lot of pain but like actively filled with contempt for himself and his audience. the song with the sock felt demonic

he’s right listen to him. just watched swiss army man last night and it’s incredible, would recommend heartily. i don’t even have good words. transcendent? very, very funny in the same way as EEAAO, in some ways more so twitter.com/hormeze/status…

I had the same feelings & perceptions as you, but I loved the show, e.g.: I found the sock song amazing *because* of how demonic he made it. Not sure what that says about me though 😬

society is distrustful & a bit poisoned; deeply cynical & bitter. He does a great job of tapping into that, but it's not a fun place to be. Better to go out and try to be positive rather than wallow in it

Which, to be fair to Inside as a whole project, it does point towards that very truth rather aggressively by the end. "...tell a joke when no one's laughing in the background" "...call me up and tell me a joke" "... now come out with your hands up we've got you surrounded..."🤔

Same. Couldn’t make it through. Felt a bit too cynical but also weird because it was clearly an incredible piece of art.
I think it was recorded at a very unique pandemic period when everyone was a bit off

it was a cathartic relief at the time. now it wouldn't resonate as much for most

interesting! although i got Real Depression vibes and he used actual dark humor, i thought that song was especially perceptive & no lies were detected

It was incredible at the time of release, during the darkest period of the pandemic. Was a shining light at the time tbh, no one else put anything else out.

There’s an absolute masterpiece toward the end that’s worth watching, Welcome to the Internet. If you don’t intend to finish the whole special, at least watch that (it’s on YouTube).
