Hmm, I think interpreting the free love part of the 1960s movements as negative may be a uniquely 21st Century American critique of ourselves: a lot of the problem was "so, what if we did this to 'liberate' ourselves but actually did nothing about domination by men?"

The rest was predictably reaping the rewards of mindless "negative libertarianism": with no positive obligation, nor significant reward for doing good, and no negative prohibition, nor force keeping people in check, the people who already had power abused it.
