the alternative, which is bizarre in a different way, is that everything follows the dao automatically *including* humans, that all of the indignity and suffering and horror of modern industrial civilization and so forth is still somehow harmonious

This is just two truths doctrine trouble, right?
Something like: you’re already always following the dao, but you can become confused about that, and if you get unconfused, problems are still problems, but it’s ok because you’re following the dao.

I think there is a fundamental sin characterized by e.g. left hemisphere dominance, the forgetting of skillful coping, Christopher Alexander’s tragedy

yeah so sometimes i kinda do too but like where did it come from????????????????????????

hmm kinda feels like there is a topological geometrical way of seeing it like the dao is what Christopher Alexander calls “the wholeness” which is a coherent manifold structure and somehow human neocortex found a way out of it almost like an exploit

having to do with the capacity to create autonomous imaginary models and maps which become like a metaverse virtual reality where the properties of the wholeness are transcended

everything is somewhat bad because the world is no longer built in place; the "physical world" is now a kind of "implementation arena" for plans and ambitions that circulate within the "metaverse" of bullshit schemes

this is a bit pessimistic and romantically antirational but this transcendental power of the human intellect seems to be the crux, I guess the dao wholeness can cope with it in the long run

it’s kind of like a business cycle thing like the intellect is an enormous source of leverage credit and it tends to give rise to oversized insensitive projects out of joint with local structure, extreme example being nuclear weapons

but then from the cosmic dao perspective it’s like oh yeah there’s yet another little planetary eruption of vast destructive energy, species and ecosystems arising and passing

That is to say - mankind's sins are more notable because his light is brighter. He can support failure for longer periods of time. If a less grand system has a failure it just ends.
Brightest light casts the longest shadow. The Dao is beyond good and evil
