it's wild to me that people will live their lives guided by their reading of a *translation* of a document without ever engaging with the original language or any of the details of the translation process

and regardless of whether that particular author's claims about what the translation should be are right or not, i don't see how any practicing christian could be confident this sort of thing *wasn't* going on, without studying the original bible or finding someone who has

In this view, 'accepting Jesus into your heart' is probably the same as taking heart-centered, somatic metta as your meditation object. The deep okayness that is a result of stream entry here is given a gloss of being about the afterlife.

Oh, and when you find out that the "apostle" Paul never even met Jesus -let alone knew him, did not get along with the apostles who actually did know Jesus, and wrote the majority of the New Testament based upon his meeting of Jesus in visions, the NT takes on a whole new light.

Also, pre-Christian Paul was a well-educated, well-connected Jew (I'm not deriding the Hebrew faith here) who worked for the Romans in persecuting the early Christians. Imho, he saw a way to make a buck and gain a little power from the new fast growing cult/sect of Hebrew-ism.
