I’d just tell her I’m psyched when I see anyone smiling in the gym at all everyone but me always looks pissed here and I feel weird about it (in gym rn when saw this)
imo depends how you say it. Walking up and being like “I love that you smile” and expecting convo is bad but if it feels convenient saying thank you for enjoying this place everyone else looks like they’re trying to get revenge at iron or smth is fine esp if it’s in passing
I would think you were trying to start a conversation so that’s a no from me, dawg
I also realize this response is probably shaped by past trauma, men cat calling me in public, asking me to smile, or commenting on my appearance in general when it wasn’t asked for.

Also gym time for me is for solitary reflection. Hence headphones. I don’t even say hello to people I know who I run into at the gym except out of courtesy when they do so first
So yeah, def depends on headphones & body language of the target
