the fact that psychology majors don’t have a reputation as being particularly charismatic or good at relationships or even at managing people is a pretty damning indictment of either academic psychology or college or both

by the way you could substitute "psychology majors" for "therapists" or "meditators" here and i think it would still be true 😛
in all three cases there are substantial selection effects. people are drawn to these practices because they can tell they're really fucked up

Might be you. Psych major and meditator here Tough to relate to people when you see them confabulate their entire lives, you see lies constantly, you understand the world very differently. Being bold enough to bear the truth is a burden. We don't put on shows for people.
