Doreen Virtue is a fantastic example, who was a high-profile new ager who was extremely successful and shocked the community when she denounced it all and was like “ya i’m only for Jesus now”

i had a feeling like this on a trip recently. like i specifically wanted an incredibly strong spiritual center / home / refuge and specifically jesus seemed like one of the strongest available options. i ended up going with something else though

i think jesus feels very close, accessible and relatable partly bc he was a God embodiment but knew what it was to live as a conscious human. and obvi bc everyone in the us gets a lot of exposure to the idea

in the moment going with jesus seemed like committing to a kind of dualism that i didn’t want. i do wonder if i was responding less to jesus per se and more to a specific outdated stereotyoe

i also didn’t want to belong to a jealous god. said something to me recently like “you don’t choose which gods you belong to” and i found myself actively hoping i didn’t belong to the christian god

i see! those descriptions do sound more like old testament version of god, which some people to stick to. not something you’d know if not around a lot of the religion, but the jesus quotes in the bible are basically all about loving all and getting saved, in the newer test.
