I don't really seem to "get dopamine" from twitter likes where I don't recognize the pfp
which is probably a sign I'm trying to use twitter to fulfill a need for
social relationships, not just... "to get dopamine"

almost nobody who slings that word around understands what dopamine actually does. best phrasing i’ve heard recently is that it’s about “progress” which i think tracks and is better than what i was using before which was “hope”

importantly with both of those, progress or hope can be more or less “fake” - ie dopamine generated by a video game vs dopamine generated by going on a nice date with someone you could see turning into a long term relationship
