my fraternity in college had a Catty Gay and he told me once i couldn't pull off v-necks so i didn't wear v-necks for almost a decade afterwards

This happened to me with the color black. Sounds silly and now I wear it all the time, but long ago someone I respected told me that black made me look like I was trying to be someone I wasn’t and “browns are really more your thing” and I didn’t wear black for years. Ugh
