one of the most interesting parts of reading Laing is getting verification that things like struggling with meaning, not feeling like a "real" person, feeling like everything you do is an act, were also common mid 20th century, and is not some bullshit millenials made up

Like, Vervaeke implies this slowly emerged over the last ~1000 years.
I think McGilchrist would say it's an effect of the industrialization->computer age pipeline.
