sometimes when i feel good enough around a group of people something changes about my vision and everyone’s faces look softer and more detailed. this is exactly what happened when i took oxytocin so now i know that means oxytocin was produced

this happened to me once at an authentic relating event in texas in 2018 or so and i was shocked. the before / after difference was so stark. it seemed like before i had been too nervous / anxious to really settle into the group. and it was sobering to notice that was my default

still not done wilding out about reddit autistic oxytocin guy btw. i’ve been haphazardly collecting oxytocin stories, maybe 10ish so far, and 1 out of 10 was a big transformative experience like this one. could be worse!

guys can we talk about this completely insane thread where oxytocin nasal spray apparently makes an autistic guy not autistic temporarily? i'm gonna be fucked up about this for days twitter.com/punished3liza/…

if oxytocin is related to the social deficits of autism i wonder if this partly explains rationalist cuddle puddle culture - like the oxytocin generated by the cuddling partly counteracts what otherwise amounts to an oxytocin deficit? mysteries

That’s a really good idea/point. There’s plenty of times where I was super into something, and then when I thought about it, I had the same thing happen to me

Like, everyone’s face looked sharper, clearer, and I was just way more at ease

I'm pretty skeptical, pretty sure I've seen papers completely debasing nasal oxytocin effects in autistic patients.
Not to imply it would have zero effect but a lot goes into a feeling and emotion, I don't feel it is simply a chemical release

"Cuddle puddle culture" is very popular in Finland, also in communities that don't feel very or at all autistic.
