the weird thing about pears i will never understand is only one kind is good (anjou) and only when very ripe and the others are all affronts to the majesty of god in comparison

Apples are the premier tree fruit - astounding in their variety, covering a magnificent spectrum of tastes and textures, key ingredient in cider (the best alcoholic drink)

Pears are second. A wet, dripping, sweet succulence bordering on obscene, subtle differences in flavor and texture highlight the universal experience of a ripe pear basically being like mouth sex.

you’re absolutely correct but only about anjou pears (although hmm i may need to retest bartlett pears, don’t quite remember what they taste like)
Anjous are a classic, but barlett are most frequently picked unripe and then ethelyne ripened due to their ability to be transported, resulting in crunchier pears that are less sweet
You gotta get fresh, branch ripened pears. A poached bosc pear is legendary in my house.
