my guess is it’s mayhem but the minority internally who deeply love twitter and its long-term mission feel equanimity and joy but aren’t saying anything
I think he will increase the learning rate of the company. Twitter is far from where it needs to go so turning up the learning rate is good. It’s also too bulky so cutting down will help
Immediate free speech discourse is smaller thing compared to learning rate increase imo
Are you saying you think Musk buying Twitter would be good for the platform? I think exactly the opposite. His vision of "free speech" actually means the speech of people with money overwhelms everyone else.
It’s been famous in silicon valley for being a slothy dead place to work at as long as I can remember? 5-10yrs
Turning it into a place where most employees are passionate about making it incredible and are willing to trade their life working for that will be transformative
Though free speech is definitely an issue too. All my smartest friends censor themselves immensely, only sharing their best ideas with peers bc afraid to do publicly. This wildly increases inequality, ideas nepotism and information flow elitism is bad. Twitter > dinner parties
imo quite a few people seeing this should consider pivoting to working at private Twitter at the ground floor if it happens. I think it’ll be a unique chance in the history of social technology eg
imo far better to build something impressive on top of twitter (eg map the ingroup type things, use gpt3+twitter in a creative way) then just show them or get an intro to someone and link them to it
I think if you started basically now you could have something really impressive ready by the time you need to show them. I think they’ll be a short window when having the right thing to show will matter a lot
speaking of which here's a data visualization i would absolutely *love* to have: i want a twitter genealogy
like an online map of who got who onto twitter / tpot, e.g. my "parent" was @Malcolm_Ocean. it'd be basically a tree, kinda like this: twitter.com/goblinodds/sta…
