there’s a very specific kind of smug people get when they become convinced other people consist of exactly two layers and they’ve penetrated the first layer and figured out the second. god forbid there should be a third layer beneath the second

People are enormously complex. There are people I've known for decades who still surprise me. Seems unfortunate to assume people are so shallow.
