I say all this as one who loves Twitter: There is an *intense* un-seriousness about the product. Features are carelessly added, like audio tweets, and forgotten (still no android verision). Or abandoned like fleets. Nothing is ever polished. Leadership doesn't use the platform. twitter.com/bsansouci/stat…

speaking of which, notice how awkwardly i had to use screenshots to get around the fact that i can't QT 3 tweets simultaneously which leads me to *my* feature request: multi-QTs. up to 4 at a time like images

multi-QTs - i want to be able to QT two or maybe more tweets at a time for contrast. people already do stuff like this with screenshots but that doesn’t allow linking twitter.com/michaelsayman/…

using screenshots is okay but it's awkward because they aren't searchable and aren't linked in either direction while a QT is a link in both directions. only here in the third tweet of this thread can i actually now QT visa's thread

Nice Here’s my #1 rec for @twitter: realize that quote tweets are a killer feature of your product. Add it as a separate part of notifications besides All and Mentions. And separate it from RTs. Ie make it “likes, RTs, QTs”. Sounds radical? It’ll push this game into hyperdrive twitter.com/patrickc/statu…

when

introduced me to twitter he gave me a short starter pack of threads about threading. one of them was visa's twitter_rpg_strategy_guide.txt which remains one of the best things anyone's written about how to conceive of twitter imo

The key feature of (public) Twitter is that any player can interact with any other player. Any player can reply to any other player’s tweets, or retweet it, or quote-tweet it. This bypasses traditional limitations of both “real life” as well as older web mediums like “blogs”.

i cannot possibly express how much i think twitter should *not* have an edit button. being able to edit tweets hurts QTs as a feature. QTs need to be able to point to tweets stably (this is why tweets shouldn't be deletable either)

when you quote an excerpt of a document in another document the author of the original document should not be able to edit their document in a way that changes the text in yours. that would be ridiculous. same with QTs and tweet editing

at the very least tweets should have a full public edit history or else you're just giving people license to rewrite the history of threads arbitrarily. the QT feature makes tweets *historical documents*, this should not be possible
