I usually refer to this as the Fight Club Effect, but is there another name for it?:
Basically, that the Message of your story isn’t what you can argue in a paper, or how you wrap up the last 5 minutes or whatever—the Message is whatever most people’s takeaway is.

It’s not in fashion but i do believe in listening to a person’s intention behind their surface words. Otherwise it just bestows moral superiority on those who are able to be the most neurotically controlled with language

i tend to believe that artists often don't understand the significance of their own work. keith johnstone talks a lot about this in impro - in the creative mode you're just channeling some stuff from somewhere, not thinking about your own symbolism or w/e
